British Army - 'Operation Numerika' on Nintendo DS

Case Study

‘Operation Numerika’ is aimed at recruits into the British Army, many of whom are found not to have the required numeracy skills.

A traditional classroom and workbook approach wasn’t working - something new was required, that better suited the needs of developing soldiers. The solution is an interactive, games-based solution delivered on Nintendo DS, which has exceeded the Army’s requirements by engaging soldiers in mathematics to raise their numeracy levels to entry level 3.

This is the first time an educational package has been designed on Nintendo DS, to provide context specific support to individual adult learners. You may see kids at home or in the street using their Nintendo DS, but did you ever expect to see a soldier playing a maths game on one? Download a full case study here.
