Epic community and creativity
Epic and the City
Epic is one of Brighton’s largest employers and has played
a significant role in the creative community over the years. As
one of the largest creative companies in the city we have won dozens
of international and national awards. We also played a significant
role in the successful city bid. Our CEO was on the City Bid Team
and Epic staff produced an interactive CD-ROM, with 100 video interviews
of citizens aged 1-100. The CD-ROM went on tour around the town
and was used in the formal bid – we won!
Epic and the Arts
Epic staff have positions on the boards of several charitable organisations
in the arts, such as the Brighton Festival, Brighton Dome and Brighton
Fringe. A member of staff also came second in the prestigious National
Portrait Awards. Others are active in local theatre, many of our
employees are in local bands and our Director of Education is a
regular Brighton performer as a Jazz guitarist.
Epic and Education
We have formed a close relationship with a local secondary school,
Vardean, and taken students from a number of secondary schools as
part of their planned work experience. Our Director of Education
is a school governor and has forged many links with local education
institutions, including City College, University of Brighton and
University of Sussex. We are also on the board of the non-profit
making Interactive University.
Epic and Placement students
Placement and work experience students have been welcomed in the
company with placements from the University of Brighton, University
of Sussex, University of Portsmouth and University of Plymouth.
Others have come from as far away as Germany, Hungary, France, Spain,
Italy and Montenegro.
Epic and Community Forums
Epic has also presented to, and attended, community groups and
forums such as Common Purpose, the City Forum and HUB100. We have
also hosted visits for politicians including Robin Cook, Margaret
Becket, John Smith, Michael Heseltine and Chris Smith.
Epic and Employment
Epic has won the Sussex Business of the Year Award and supports
local organisations such as Wired Sussex. We have recruited locally,
largely from our local colleges and universities, and have been
instrumental in helping create the new media, and more specifically,
the e-learning cluster in the city.
Epic and Environment
With less than 5% of employees driving to work we regard ourselves
as being an extremely environmentally friendly company. This, along
with our paper recycling policy and Fair Trade Coffee, all adds
up to an environmentally sensitive approach to business.

Brighton Fringe Festival
Epic is also taking part in the 2005 Brighton
Festival Fringe. As one of the largest employers in Brighton
we are throwing our doors wide open to anyone who would like to
see one of the UK's largest new media companies in action. Further
details available on the Fringe
site.
