E-leadership for local government
The Cabinet Office today announced that it had signed
a contract with local government's Improvement and Development Agency
(IDeA), to create an online strategic leadership programme for managers
across local government. Working in a public-private partnership
with Epic and iMPOWER plc, the Cabinet Office has created PRIME:
Local Government to drive through a transformation in leadership
skills across the public sector.
PRIME: Local Government is based upon the highly successful
online leadership programme, PRIME:
Leadership which was launched in March 2002. PRIME: Local Government
offers individuals an intensive learning programme based on a range
of learning methods including tutorials, case studies, scenario-based
simulations, off-line exercises and links to qualified sources of
information. The programme encourages managers delivering front-line
public services to develop practical leadership skills. A wide range
of examples of successful delivery are used throughout PRIME: Local
Government.
Lord MacDonald, Minister for the Cabinet
Office, welcomed the collaboration between central and
local government and the private sector. He commented: 'Encouraging
better leadership across the public sector is essential to
this Government's commitment to delivering better public services.
PRIME: Local Government is an excellent example of how a public/private
partnership can prosper and promote real change through the
innovative use of e-technology.'
Colin Barrow, Chairman for IDeA said:
'Leadership is a priority theme for the IDeA. All our work
with local authorities has shown how critical effective strategic
leadership is in improving services. PRIME: Local Government
offers senior managers in the sector the opportunity to develop
an understanding of critical leadership skills through a programme
designed for the public sector as a whole. This is a ground
