Rt. Hon Charles Clarke MP talks e-learning with Epic
On Thursday 30 September the Rt. Hon. Charles Clarke MP visited
Varndean School, Brighton
to find out about the school's involvement in various e-learning
initiatives. Mr. Clarke, Secretary of State for Education and Skills,
chatted online to students in Ghana as part of the Fiankoma
Project - a development education project that uses video and
other digital media as tools to promote development awareness. He
also met Varndean e-Learning - a successful company formed by the
school to develop ICT training for other secondary schools.
Mr. Clarke talked for several minutes with Andy Schofield (Varndean
Headteacher) and John Harris (Epic Director of Education) about
a joint Epic/Varndean initiative to develop an online portal to
support teacher professional development. This approach is based
on Epic's work with corporate training delivery and employs the
latest thinking on organisational learning. Charles Clarke welcomed
the initiative and commented that this was just the sort of approach
that he had discussed with Ralph Tabberer, Chief Executive of the
Teacher
Training Agency, the body responsible for developing teachers.
Epic has worked with a number of leading agencies within the field
of education and this meeting demonstrates our increasing presence
in the sector.
