Epic appears on CNN
Epic
was asked to appear on a CNN Global Office report as, “the
UKs leading e-learning company.” Donald Clark, Epic’s
CEO introduced the programme sitting on Brighton beach with a laptop.
The point he made was that, “we have to get away from the
idea that learning always has to be timetabled”. “E-learning”,
he added, ”doesn’t need to be too tightly defined as
it is anything delivered electronically on the web where the learner
participates in the programme”.
The programme then turned to an Epic client, Barclays, to show
how Epic had delivered e-learning combined with face-to-face training
in management training. It was pointed out that e-learning means
that, “learners do not make fools of themselves in front of
others”, however, “there will always be a place for
face-to-face learning”. Barclays pointed out the support offered
by learning services in Barclays University, both offline and online.
Jane
Massey, an e-learning consultant, then provided advice on Return
On Investment (ROI). She quoted a recent McKinsey report which showed
that IT investments typically take between five and ten years to
show a real return on investment. This is because the changes in
systems, business process, people and organisational structures
need to be made to realise the return. She made the point that one
should not expect an immediate impact. Her advice was to set realistic
targets, think long-term and plan for the change.
Epic’s ROI model was also shown which is available free of
charge from the Epic
Research and Resource Area.
