More big names opt for e-learning

A large MoD supplier has opted for a targeted blend of online learning and real-word workshops to train more than 500 finance staff.

The company has signed up specialist Epic to design, develop and deliver a programme to teach staff in its Customer Solutions & Support division about the financial management of contracts.

Its ‘blended learning’ programme comprises online course modules, tutorials and tests, followed by a two-day masterclass, giving staff the opportunity to gain practical project experience applying what they have learned.

‘The elearning element will cover all the internal practises and processes used to manage contracts, and the subsequent workshops will give staff real-world teamworking and project skills,’ a spokesman said.

The programme will go live this summer. If successful, we anticipate blended learning will be adopted by other parts of the company.

Donald Clark, Epic, said ‘When defence does something such as this, it has to have half a mind to think pan-defence so they don’t get 15 similar systems,’ The elearning initiative came out of a defence training review a couple of years ago which sought to reduce costs and increase efficiencies.
