Epic develop blended learning for MOD
Epic has been selected to develop two blended learning solutions
covering First Aid and Map Reading for pan-defence use. This work
has been commissioned by the RAF Ground Training Equipment division
(GTE) and is based on the courses currently delivered using traditional
training techniques for the RAF Regiment at RAF Honington.
Appropriate elements of each topic will be converted to innovative,
scenario-based e-learning, with the more practical elements continuing
to be taught in a classroom environment.
First Aid and Map Reading are core military skills, and there is
significant potential for re-use of the e-learning elements of this
programme across defence. Versions of the learning content are being
developed for local area network use and for deployment via the
MOD’s new web-based e-learning infrastructure due for delivery
later this year.
The officer responsible for the commissioning of e-learning within
RAF GTE is Squadron Leader David Thomas. He commented: “The
RAF Regiment personnel involved in this project are very much part
of Epic’s development team and we are extremely confident
that this project will set the standard for future courseware conversions.”
Donald Clark, Epic, added: “We are extremely
pleased to have been selected by the RAF. Epic has been refining
the use of scenario-based solutions combined with optimum blends
of learning methods for a very long time. We therefore regard this
assignment very much a pathfinder project that will set new standards,
change the traditional view of e-learning and be adopted for future
MOD assignments”.
