Littlehampton School Visit
Earlier this month Epic played host to 30 Year 10 students from Littlehampton School. Despite initial reservations about where to put them the visit went well with the children acting as great ambassadors for their school. The visit provided the students not only with an opportunity to see the relevance of their ICT curriculum in the workplace, but also gave them a rare and important glimpse into office life. Once theyd squeezed into the Board Room, the students were introduced to members of Epics production staff who gave overviews of their roles. Each of these presentations was designed to show the students the various careers available in IT and to demonstrate the relevance of their ICT studies in the workplace. The students proved to be an enthusiastic bunch with plenty of questions and opinions after the presentations, before posing for a photograph outside the building. Although this time round the idea was for the children to experience Epic, in the past they have provided us with a valuable focus group for two of our key clients. You can always rely on children for their honesty and their feedback has played an important part in the refinement of functionality, the use of avatars and art direction. All of which is in accordance with our Learner Centred Design approach. This age group is vital when it comes to our knowledge of the future of e-learning, and they are only too happy to share with us the kind of on-line environments they enjoy. Sarah Hopkins, Community and Liaison at the school said, As a Business and Enterprise Specialist School, real world input is invaluable and crucial to the development of our students... thank you for raising their aspirations and giving them a taste of office life.
