Trust the Trustee
Epic, the UK’s leading e-learning company, has launched an online training programme for the Pensions Regulator. The Trustee Toolkit, a free, user-friendly online resource is available at www.trusteetoolkit.com>
Aimed at all trustees, the toolkit is perhaps most useful to small and medium-sized schemes that lack sufficient training resources. The Pensions Regulator has initially unveiled two learning units, ‘Introducing Pension Schemes’ and ‘The Trustees Role’. Epic will continue to release further units that will ultimately expand to over twenty hours of e-learning.
The modules address statutory requirements for trustees to have knowledge and understanding of the law relating to pensions and trusts, the principles relating to the funding of occupational schemes and the investment of scheme assets, and to be familiar with their own schemes.
The toolkit, though created with trustees in mind, is available to anyone who wishes to research pension schemes. It is highly interactive and user-friendly and achieves an enviable goal in managing to turn technical content into an engaging and enjoyable learner experience.
Sarah Axon, Account Manager at Epic said “Pensions affect all of us and we are very proud to be involved in a project which will help trustees gain a more in depth understanding and give them confidence in their important role.”.
“We have used real-life scenarios and case studies, as well as interactive interviews, audio and video to create a highly innovative programme.”
There are more than 126,000 trustees in 32,000 pension schemes and the Pensions Regulator hopes that the 24 hour availability will encourage wide take-up.
Terry Clayworth, regulated community learning manager at the Pensions Regulator, added “The overwhelming majority of trustees said they would recommend the interactive learning to both new and existing trustees and described the programme as powerful and effective”.
