What is RSS?
RSS allows news and information to come directly to you, saving you the effort of proactively
browsing internet sites to keep abreast of news. Epic publishes company news and press releases,
as well as those of our partner e-learning organisations, in RSS format, so that you can keep abreast
of industry news and information and eliminate the time, cost and effort of spending time proactively
looking for it.
We won't go into the technical background, except to say that RSS stands for 'Really Simple
Syndication', and it genuinely is so simple that you do not require any technical expertise to use it.
How do I start using RSS feeds?
All you need is an RSS news reader. There are many hundreds of readers to choose from, we have
recommended some of the most popular and easy to use news readers below. Depending on where you want
to access your news, you can either install a news reader on your PC or PDA, install a news ticker
on your browser or create a personal web page on one of many RSS websites.
Browse to the Epic homepage and beneath the news headlines, you will see the orange
RSS icon. You can subscribe to the news feed by dragging the icon to your news reader, or clicking on the
icon and copying the URL into a new feed in your reader.
How do I get a news reader?
There are literally hundreds of RSS news readers, or 'RSS aggregators' available. Here are a few
we recommend for first-time users:
Online: Bloglines
Desktop: FeedReader
Browser (Internet Explorer): Pluck
Browser (Firefox): Live Bookmarks
