Epic short-listed for 'Team of the Year’
and ‘Excellence in the production of learning content’
e-learning Age awards 2006
In partnership with O2 and Saffron Interactive, Epic
has been shorlisted for the e-learning Age ‘Team of the Year’
award 2006, the winner to be announced at the awards dinner, Royal
Garden Hotel, on November 9th.
In Spring 2005, O2’s Jonathan Gaw secured a significant budget
to completely overhaul the company’s compliance e-learning.
It was to be re-branded, re-written, brought fully up to date and
reflect feedback from thousands of users of previous courses.
“Compliance isn’t seen as a stimulating topic. While
other training may lead to personal or career development, perhaps
help an employee reach performance targets and therefore benefit
financially, compliance training is a legal necessity. Therefore,
we wanted to deliver training that would be engaging and state of
the art in order to really encourage course completion and affect
people’s behaviour.”
Rather than go with a single supplier, O2 commissioned both Epic
and Saffron to jointly develop the e-learning, requiring close liaison
between suppliers to ensure consistency of look and feel, technology,
style, tone and navigation.
A total of 10 hours of e-learning, plus assessments, has been rolled
out to over 12,000 O2 employees, with over 77,000 courses completed.
As Jonathan explains: “..Feedback has also been overwhelmingly
positive. Users found the courses easy to use and liked the fact
that they did not have to go through the whole course to pass it,
if they passed the corresponding pre-tests. The branding was also
deemed to be “excellent”. This is testament to the fact
that the courses were delivered with a lightness of touch, they
worked first time and they were as entertaining as I have ever seen
compliance training.”
Epic Shorlisted for ‘Excellence in the production
of learning content’ e-learning Age awards 2006
In partnership with Virgin Atlantic Airways, Epic has
been shortlisted for the e-learning Age ‘Excellence in the
production of learning content’ award 2006, the winner to
be announced at the awards dinner, Royal Garden Hotel, on November
9th.
It’s hard to think of a business with a stronger brand identity
than Virgin Atlantic Airways. It was Epic’s brief to create
an online pre-induction course that not only introduced new starters
to Virgin Atlantic unique ethos but that also introduced them to
the challenges facing any business in the competitive airline sector.

New starters around the world can log on to 90 minutes of games,
timelines, interactive interviews as well as have the chance to
hear from Virgin Atlantic staff on four continents all geared to
showing why Virgin Atlantic is ‘…a profitable airline
that people love to fly and people love to work for’.

With such impressive results and positive feedback,
we are confident our entry meets the award evaluation criteria.
We’re hoping to bring good news in December’s newsletter!
