“The Whole Show – Right Here, Right
Now”
The eLearning Network - 29th September 2006, London
With a rousing
delivery of a pastiche of Shakespeare, Phil Green opened proceedings
on an excellent day of e-learning. The objective was to work through
an e-learning requirement from analysis to evaluation. The 60 plus
delegates were divided into groups to work through nine key stages
of e-learning development. Each stage was introduced by a highly experienced
e-learning practitioner who explained the importance of the step and
suggested possible tools and techniques that could be used. With expert
help readily available within the groups, the delegates were then
invited to try out some of the techniques on an exercise to provide
'mouse training'.
As the event progressed and delegates reached the 'storyboard'
stage, developers were briefed by the groups on the training requirements.
Using rapid development tools, the developers then turned the requirements
into sample screens which were demonstrated at the end of the day.
Although the screens were clearly very rough and ready, they certainly
gave the delegates a taste of how their designs might look and function
on screen.
The entire event was very well planned and organised by Ian Lee-Emery.
However, some delegates felt that it was a little ambitious and
they barely had time to assimilate learning from one section before
having to move on to the next.
'The Whole Show' has once again proved to be a very popular and
informative event within the eLN calendar. Indeed, judging from
many of the comments, the event was particularly illuminating for
delegates new to e-learning or those recently tasked with developing
e-learning strategies within their organisations.
We look forward to the next eLN event and perhaps some more of
Phil Green’s Shakespeare.
