Case Study: Ufi-learndirect
Testing of learning resources
Ufi-learndirect is a government-led, public-financed company, supplying
online and CD ROM-delivered learning to the general public. As a
result of its public funding, Ufi-learndirect is required to outsource
various parts of its business – including testing –
and to ensure fairness to all its suppliers. Testing is therefore
spread over three test houses.
The challenge
Ufi-learndirect requires a rolling testing service as courses become
ready. Items tested include whole courses, updates and qualification
exams or tests. Tests are performed in the following categories:
functionality, content, interworking (interoperability), accessibility,
hardware cross-compatibility and software cross-compatibility.
In order to meet Ufi-learndirect infrastructure conditions, Epicentre
has provided secure test centres able to handle large workloads
while meeting Ufi-learndirect’s testing specifications. Epicentre
has also provided Ufi-learndirect with a permanent test team.
The solution
Epicentre has now been working with Ufi-learndirect for over five
years, providing a daily testing service as well as delivering weekly
progress reports, advising on testing styles and ensuring that Ufi
are kept fully abreast of the very latest software available, in
order to ensure that standards are continually raised.
During the past five years Epicentre has tested over 470 courses
for Ufi-learndirect, helping to deliver e-learning to an estimated
1,000,000 users throughout the United Kingdom.
The outcome
Nelson Thornes continues to supply Epicentre with a steady and
substantial source of work – at least 30 titles are being
tested in 2006.
