DEFENCE
AND E-LEARNING
1. Introduction
The military is a powerful and ever-present force in training,
exploring avenues that are rarely tackled in other sectors. We all
have a lot to learn from military training, especially from their
research in leadership and team building but also in the use of
simulations. They have a long history of using simulators and are
now pioneering complex performance simulation.
We are now entering a new era, with an emerging military-entertainment
complex. In training especially, e-learning, simulations and
games are being developed by teams of military experts in collaboration
with e-learning, TV, movie, games and simulation companies. These
two different worlds are colliding and colluding to create some
of the most innovative and successful e-learning initiatives on
the planet.
Read up on the latest training initiatives from the military sector
and see how they could be applied to your industry.

BOOK REVIEW
2. Outsourcing Training & Education
Author: Garry J. Derose
Review by Donald Clark
To outsource or not to outsource; that is the question? The eternal
debate about how much training is and will be outsourced rumbles
on. In practice huge amounts of training have been and will continue
to be outsourced, so this book will always have a big audience.
He starts by showing that training and education are already outsourced
and that from 60% of small companies to 90% of large companies outsource
to some degree, and that the expectation is that outsourcing will
continue. Couldn’t agree more.

3. NCSL tailors education to pupils' needs
The National College for School Leadership (NCSL) has issued a
supplement to their magazine for school leaders entitled “Personalised
Learning – Tailoring Solutions for Every Pupil”. The
NCSL is very active in the area of personalisation, focusing on
pupils’ individual learning styles, motivation and needs.
The article focuses not on what personalised learning is, but rather
how personalised learning is becoming a reality in schools, and
how this can bring a dramatic shift in the education system.
