New owners, new opportunities, new people
By Steve Macvicar, COO, Epic
New Owners
On August 22 2005 Epic was acquired by the London-based learning
and publishing organisation, Huveaux plc. Huveaux was formed in
2001 by its chairman John van Kuffeler with the objective of building
a substantial media organisation by acquisition and organic growth.
Epic now joins a stable of well-established and highly respected
brands whose expertise in their own specialist fields offer us a
wide range of opportunities to increase both the breadth and depth
of our e-learning solutions across the public and private sectors.
Huveaux is organised into three Divisions - Learning, UK Political
and EU Political
Epic is the largest unit within the Learning Division and its new
stable mates are:
- Fenman Limited, specialist publishers of materials and information
concerned with employee Training and related personnel matters,
including The Training Journal
- Lonsdale SRG, publishers of revision guides and workbooks for
school pupils in England and Wales
Epic clients may be interested to know that Training
Journal has undergone a relaunch. To take advantage of a discount
of up to 30% call 01353 654877.
New Opportunities
Partnership with Fenman and Lonsdale give Epic access to a range
of educational and training material unrivalled by any other provider
of customised e-learning solutions in the UK. Our affiliation with
Huveaux’s domestic and overseas political divisions also gives
us a unique opportunity to develop tailored and generic compliance-based
e-learning programmes specifically designed to help private-sector
companies and public-sector organisations meet the requirements
of forthcoming legislation – well in advance of its implementation.
- Trading as Dod’s Parliamentary Communications, Huveaux’s
UK Political Division is the UK’s leading publisher of specialist
political biographical reference books, websites and monitoring
services, guides, directories, magazines and newsletters related
to parliamentary and government institutions.
- Huveaux’s EU Political Division includes Le Trombinoscope,
France’s leading publisher of political biographical reference
books in France; EUPolitix.com and Parliament Magazine in Brussels;
and Eurosource, the definitive guide to EU people and institutions.
Commenting on the acquisition of Epic, Huveaux Chairman John van
Kuffeler said; “As learning is core to Huveaux’s growth
strategy and e-learning is an increasingly important part of the
learning and training mix, I am confident that Epic will play a
key role in the future development of the company as a whole and
will come to represent the digital hub of our UK operations.”
New People
As we develop the new opportunities that our change of ownership
represents, it is business as usual in Brighton. Customer satisfaction
has always been a priority at Epic and will remain so. To this end,
former CEO Donald Clark has relinquished his day-to-day operation
responsibilities to concentrate on his work with our clients and
Epic’s management has been bolstered by the appointment of
a new COO and Head
of Consulting.
The new COO is Steve Macvicar, who has many years' experience formulating
digital strategies at blue-chip publishing companies including The
Economist Group and EMAP. He was also Director of Strategy at Interactive1,
and internet business solutions provider. For further information
on Huveaux or the acquisition of Epic please contact marketing@epic.co.uk.
