Epic Think Tank
Health and e-learning
As
one of the two pillars of the political system along with Education,
Health is under huge pressure to deliver on the government's modernisation
agenda. Learning in the National Health Service faces challenges
that go to the root of that agenda.
The NHS is one of the most knowledge-intensive
organisations in Britain, yet it has no way of efficiently
capturing and sharing that knowledge. The nation's largest
employer, with more than 1 million employees, it faces a continuous
ongoing skills shortage impossible to meet by traditional
means.
Epic recently brought together a select group
of high-level Health Service managers, focused on workforce
development both at national and regional level, to discuss
the role that new learning technologies have to play in dealing
with these issues.
In particular, the discussion examined:
- The challenge of 'e' to traditional structures
and methods
- Opportunities and practicalities in establishing
the NHS as a learning organisation
- Where are the 'quick wins'?
