Epic Think Tank

Health and e-learning

Afterword

The summary presented on these page is necessarily a distillation of a far more wide-ranging discussion, but several points emerged strongly as pointing a way forward:

  • E-learning initiatives in health should not be about delivering the same sort of content through a different delivery mechanism, but should focus on issues of change

  • A key focus for initiatives should be creating a common language within the organisation to discuss these issues

  • Finding the correct team approach is important to making things happen

Needless to say, our panellists did not agree on every point, but what became clear from the discussion was that they shared a sophisticated learner-centred vision within a framework of support, mentoring and an emphasis on designing the learner experience, with e-learning acting as a powerful agent for cultural change.
