Show report
WOLCE 2005
Report by Steve Barden, Epic
Epic joined over 100 other exhibitors and some
150 delegates at the annual WOLCE exhibition and conference.
The conference themes were 'Maximising the impact of learning'
and 'Developing a culture for learning.' Although the conference
had a heavy UK focus, it brought an international panel for the
opening of day two including Jay Cross from the US and a live link
to Brandon Hall.
There were a number of noteworthy speakers covering such topics
as learner motivation, how to build a better strategy, impacting
learning culture and understanding ROI. Overall though, the conference
programme was light on substance and variety with delegates being
offered just two common and two streamed sessions per day.
Our Initial thoughts are that the exhibition was reasonably successful
with a good turnout of visitors on day one although the second day
was quieter. However, the nature of most visitors was that they
were clear in what they were looking for and had specific requirements
for which they were seeking options. We recorded a number of new
organisations who were looking for technology-based inputs to their
blended requirements - and they were pretty clear on their needs.
As usual, there was a broad range of exhibitors covering the whole
spectrum of learning. Business gaming and informal learning products
were of particular note and reflect our experience that such areas
are gaining true prominence in the world of e-learning.
