Schools
In one of the largest e-learning projects for schools in the UK,
Epic has designed and developed content for girls in IT. This innovative
project will be used in schools to encourage the take up of IT in
schools and beyond.
We have produced a range of learning titles for schools in science:
Violent Earth, Exploring Science - Light and Sound, Exploring Science
- Electricity and Magnetism, Exploring Land Habitats and Exploring
Water Habitats, for children between the ages of nine and 14.
The
Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia, designed and developed by
Epic, is the only British-originated encyclopedia on CD ROM. Based
around the National Curriculum, the encyclopedia contains more than
36,000 entries, over 45 video clips, over 100 audio clips, and thousands
of pictures. We also developed the Hutchinson Music, History, Science
and Penguin Reference Suites.
Epic developed an online course for the Teachers Training Agency
with Capita. The course covered basic IT skills as well as the use
of ICT in the classroom. A flexible curriculum was offered including
online tutor support.
A staff development and appraisal training programme was produced
for the Scottish Education Department. The target audience was primary
school teachers in Scotland. This programme won a BIVA productivity
award.
Looking Ahead - Helping You to Shape Your Future was an interactive
careers guidance programme for Year 9/10 students. The CD ROM helps
students assess their own academic and personal strengths, values,
aspirations and ambitions.
We have also developed a number of programmes on language learning,
including two titles for Longman: Zak's Wordgames - an interactive
vocabulary learning game for childen, and FCEasy - examination practice
for the Cambridge First Certificate.
Further education
As part of the National Learning Network initiative Epic has produced
many hours of interactive e-learning
materials for further education students. The content has included
courses on Health studies, Business Studies, Generic Science, Social
Studies (A/AS Level), Physics (A/AS Level) and English Language
(A/AS Level).
We also work with individual Further Education institutions such
as Crawley College, City College, Croner College, Culham College,
Newham College and others on topics as diverse as Total Quality
Management and Religious Studies.
top Higher education
Epic designed, developed, marketed and maintain HEFCE's higher
education portal. HERO
is the official gateway site to the UK's universities, colleges
and research organisations.
We also work with individual higher education institutions such
as Cambridge University, Heriot-Watt and Dundee University on specific
international e-learning projects in business and medicine.
Lifelong learning
For the University for Industry (UfI/learndirect), we developed
content on e-business and have delivered on several testing contracts
in our EpiCentre
lab. This involves testing across a range of browsers and kit ranges
to make sure that the content works on release.
