Epic enters Virgin territory
Epic Group plc, has just completed its first e-learning project
for V.Shop, the Virgin chain of internet-to-high-street retail outlets.
The shops offer chart music, DVD hardware and software, console
games and hardware, MP3, mini-disc and CD players and the entire
range of Virgin mobile hardware.
With the increasing variety of mobile phones and electrical goods
on the market, it is ever more difficult for sales staff keep abreast
of the different functions and benefits associated with different
products. Such knowledge is essential, however, in order for staff
to advise customers appropriately when choosing the product that
best suits their needs.
To assist staff in their training, V.Shop commissioned Epic to
pilot an e-learning approach whereby staff can access effective,
just-in-time, training online via their company intranet.
Epic has created two 15-minute e-learning programmes for piloting
in five of the V.Shop stores. The first of these, The Virgin Difference,
introduces the learner to the benefits of using Virgin as a mobile
phone service provider. The second covers the topic of Virgin Xtras,
which let customers use their mobile phones to listen to music,
shop for goodies, check out their favourite football team's position
in the league tables, and more. Both programmes are fresh, upbeat
and exciting to capture the V.Shop and Virgin ethos.
Ian Farringdon, Epic account director, says there are many advantages
to this approach: "e-learning is more accessible - learners can
undertake sessions via a PC whenever it suits them - there is no
need to wait until the next scheduled course or to travel to training
centres.
"This improved access encourages staff to take responsibility
for their own learning whilst the engaging nature of the medium
improves motivation to learn."
Sheena Macdonald, Training, Development and Recruitment Manager
at V.Shop said: "We will benefit from the assurance that all staff
receive the same high quality standard of training, and the e-learning
programmes produced are re-usable, thus saving the company money
in the long-term."
