Epic Think Tank
Blended - or Blanded?
Background
To kick off the discussion, Epic presented two case studies:
- Barclays 'bu …take
the lead' - a blended programme in which e-learning modules
are supported by online tutoring via e-mail and telephone
- The Blender - Epic's blended learning ROI decision tool, developed
in consultation with public and private sector clients to allow
cost-based modelling of different blending scenarios to be in
real time - a sort of 'e-learning consultant in a box'
Points that delegates highlighted in response to these cases studies
were:
- Defining the precise composition of the blend, in the way that
it balances costs against benefits, is where the concept of blended
learning starts to become 'real world'. The business case isn't
everything, but it's a great start in getting the thing rooted
in specifics.
- One of the notable features of the bu …take the lead
programme was in demonstrating how the blended approach allows
more customisation in response to conditions on the ground. E-learning
content can concentrate on what is widely applicable, with more
traditional elements being used to introduce subtleties at the
local level.
