Leadership and e-learning
Background
- Leadership is currently a hot topic, but
it's not as if leadership were something new. In fact it
has a longer pedigree than management, which was a product
of the industrial revolution. Debates about the nature of
leadership were common in the ancient world, as seen in
the literature of ancient Greece and Rome.
- The current emphasis on leadership within
organisations is partly driven by the increasing importance
given to the role of 'knowledge workers' - the perception
being that knowledge workers need to be led. However, it
is worth bearing in mind that in the US, at least, knowledge
workers account for a mere 7% of the workforce.
