Epic's Christmas Clicks for Charity

Two men. One vision: shoes for orphans.
Six years ago, that was the simple aim of postman James Macdonald and graphic designer Matt Lambert, two young men who decided to try and make a difference by taking part in the Dublin Marathon. Their goal was to raise £1000 to buy 155 pairs of Wellington boots for children in a remote Kenyan school. And it was a stomping success!
Since then, Matt and James have taken part in numerous fundraising events and founded the charity Passing It On, raising money through a selection of different activities from charity auctions and black tie dos to their flagship event, the annual Brighton Heroes Run, which is attended by 1,500 people dressed in their best superhero attire.
Passing It On was founded in September 2004 and Matt and James have now raised over £250,000 to support their charity work – not bad for two chaps with full time jobs! In the last six years the charity has funded the building of a school and orphanage in Ghana, provided new equipment for a Zambian medical school and they have just supplied a school in the Gambia with new solar panel equipment to upgrade their water pump. Not only will this pump provide water to the school, but to the entire local community.
That’s why, in the spirit of Christmas, Epic has sent out an email campaign pledging to donate £1 to Passing It On for each unique click recorded from one of our clients. And this isn’t the first time Epic has been involved with Passing It On…
Earlier this year, a 10-strong team of Epic staff including Batman, Supergirl and Wolverine took part in the Heroes Run. Supported by their colleagues at Epic, the team managed to raise over £1,000 and are already planning their costumes for next year’s event!
Kath Fleet, one of Epic’s Learning Consultants, has taken part for the past two years and also raised money for the charity by getting involved in the Santa Dashlast Saturday. She says: “It was a no-brainer getting involved with the Heroes Run – as a charity which promotes education, it’s obviously the perfect choice for an e-learning company. But regardless of that, it’s for a great cause and is a massive amount of fun taking part – it's totally worth the ritual humiliation of running around in a superheroes outfit! I look forward to it every year.”
