Epic take part in Race for Life

In July, Kath Fleet, one of Epic’s learning consultants, took part in the Cancer Research UK Race for Life in Brighton.
Kath had taken part in the race in 2009, but this year’s event was particularly poignant due to the death of her father to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in May. She comments: “I trained hard for the race this year so I hope he would have been proud of the fact that I improved on my time from 2009 by three minutes, completing the course in 27 minutes!”
Race for life is Cancer Research UK’s largest women-only fundraising event, with over 230 events taking place across the UK. All the women who take part have their own reason for doing so, whether it’s in celebration of surviving a cancer experience, in memory of a loved one, or to give hope to a cancer-free future.
Kath remarks: “It's a very moving event with the all-female runners wearing messages on their backs describing the friends and relatives that they are running the race in the name of - whether they are still fighting the disease or, like my Dad, have succumbed to it. After the race runners are invited to pin their messages up in the garden of remembrance and spend a few minutes reflecting on the loved ones they have lost.”
All the money raised by the event helps more people to beat cancer by funding the valuable work of researchers, doctors and nurses. Over 1,500 women ran in the Brighton race alone this year, raising in excess of £175,000, so it really is an incredible way of raising much-needed funds and celebrating the memory or recovery of those that suffer the many forms of this disease.
