Telling Epic tales for National Storytelling Week

Passing on knowledge via storytelling is a practice that encompasses all cultures and generations. That’s why this week, communities and organisations around the country are getting involved in the 11th National Storytelling Week, holding events that aim to promote the age-old tradition of storytelling.
Taking the traditional notion of storytelling into the 21st century, Epic has created a novel piece of e-learning. On the 27th January, at Learning Technologies exhibition in London, we hosted a seminar on the power of storytelling, demonstrating the advantages of papermation technology live on stage. Epic’s Director of Learning, Dr Naomi Norman, Head of Learning Imogen Casebourne and graphic artist Gary Cherrington, created the narrative for a piece of e-learning, with the characters, action and moral all decided by the audience.
We rapidly scripted the e-learning and, in the form of a paper animation, have now turned the story into a piece of workplace e-learning. The story tells of John who is suffering harassment in the workplace, and it shows the viewer how best to deal with this sort situation. You can view the Papermation video here.
As we’re sure you’ll all agree this is a novel twist on the conventional tradition of storytelling, very much in the spirit of National Storytelling Week. But this isn’t the first time we’ve used storytelling in e-learning. To see how else we’ve utilised storytelling in e-learning you can request a demo of our work.
